Team Viking Urus Capital Racing Fun Cup France – Circuit Paul Richard

The Team Viking Ursus Capital duo of Mark Holme and Colin Kingsnorth started their Fun Cup France campaign in mixed weather conditions at the Paul Ricard Circuit.

Following Saturday’s qualifying session they were 20th out of the 81 qualifiers. “Colin set the time in the wet, it was in the first five minutes of the session, making sure we had a banker lap. It was enough but the conditions were quite tricky for the rest of the session,” said Holme.

It was a 9am start for the eight-hour race, with Holme taking the opening stint. “It wasn’t dry but it wasn’t wet, but cars were going off and we were looking for survival,” he said.

He pitted after 40 minutes to hand to Kingsnorth, who completed the opening hour in 19th place.

“Our natural position pace wise was about 12th,” Holme added, and after two hours, that’s exactly where they were.

Into the next hour they became embroiled in a three-car fight for 11th, but continuing progress took them to 10th by half distance.

Their hopes of a top 10 finish were dashed though, when they tried to pit for fuel in the fifth hour, hoping to make ground under a full course yellow.

“Colin headed in but the pitlane was full. We lost about 40 seconds, but it was four places by the time we rejoined. The rest of the stops went very smoothly and we had no trouble with the car,” said Holme.

With two hours left on the clock, they were three laps off the lead and in 15th. “We were still top 10 pace wise, but needed a bit of luck too and to take advantage of any opportunities under full course yellows,” Holme added.

Kingsnorth was back in for a very wet final stint, where they finally took the flag a solid 16th and now look forward to the next round at Dijon on April 13th.
