Team Viking Ursus Capital Racing, Fun Cup France – Dijon

Mark Holme and Colin Kingsnorth were back in action in the French Cup, with their second outing of the season at Dijon.

Qualifying didn’t quite go as planned though, as they were left in 21st place out of the 52 car entry, leaving them on the 11th row of the grid.

“We were going well and holding ninth with less than a minute to go. We had stayed on old tyres, thought we had it in the bag and then lost 12 places. So we had definitely called it wrong this time and missed the reverse grid,” said Holme.

Kingsnorth started the first of the two four hour races and ran strongly, as the Viking/Ursus Capital duo completed the first hour 12th in a train of four cars contesting ninth place, but more importantly still in the lead lap.

By halfway they were up to eighth and still on the lead lap too, “Colin was great, he showed the fire and aggression in traffic, probably the best I have ever seen him race, so we were strong and consistent,” Holme added.

Around the third hour mark they were delayed at a fuel stop, which lost them a lap and dropped them back to 11th. “We had to queue for fuel under a Full Course Yellow and that lost us time,” Holme explained.

Kingsnorth handed back to Holme for the final stint bringing them to the flag in 10th.” The car never missed a beat, we could have been higher, but I think we were running in our natural place,” he concluded.

It was Holme’s turn to start the second race, but they were back on the 20th row with a lot to do. By the end of the first hour they had already passed half on the grid to reach 21st place, “I have never been so aggressive from the start of a race, as there were five of us racing together for almost the entire race, similar times and all really going for it,” he said.

After two hours they had slipped back to 25th, before starting the final hour 22nd. It was Kingsnorth to finish this time and both drivers went for a final push, rewarding them with 16th place at the flag.

“That last hour we cranked it up, but thought the tyres had gone off, but we managed to maintain a reasonable pace and chipped away. But we lost the pack at the start starting so far back. A great result though and the crew were great all weekend, calling it spot on,” Holme concluded.
