One Step Higher For Fun Cup Duo

Following on from their third place at Anglesey, the Team Viking & Ursus Capital Racing duo of Mark Holme and Colin Kingsnorth arrived at Oulton Park, with another podium finish firmly on their agenda.

They drew 14th place on the starting grid out of 21 starters, so start driver Holme was left with plenty of work to as they started the four-hour enduro.

He made a great start and was into ninth on the opening lap, but his progress briefly thwarted by an early safety car intervention.

From the green flag he was on the attack, quickly seeing off Jackpot’s Nathan Harrison and Fuelled Up’s Paul Ellis-Smith, before closing in on Axiametrics Chris Weatherill.

By the end of lap eight he was into sixth and soon ready to challenge Peter Ratcliff for fifth. But as the rain began to fall it took another six laps before he got by into Old Hall.

Having picked off GT Radial’s Jimmy Broadbent a lap later, he handed over to Kingsnorth at the stop in a challenging fourth place.

“It was four abreast into Island on the first lap, with cars blocking,” said Holme

They were in fourth at the end of the opening hour, but progress continued and after holding second for a few laps, Kingsnorth was forced to give best to Olympian’s Kristian Rose.

They were back in second at the end of the second hour however, and firmly established in a clear top three. Olympian and PLR Racing were their rivals, but as the three-hour mark reached it’s conclusion, there was just 6.456 secs between Holme and Rose in the Olympian car.

The gap began to come down and with barely a tenth between them, the dual for victory was full on. There continued to be nothing between them, but after Holme got by into Old Hall on lap 91, Rose made his final stop a lap later.
It was another four laps before Holme handed to Kingsnorth for the final stint, but having taken on fuel too, he emerged 13 seconds back in second.

“I was only really racing against the clock at the end, but I could see no one was catching us,” said Kingsnorth.

“What a great weekends racing, second place and great racing with Kristian, a fantastic 20 minute duel,” Holme concluded.
