Mark Holme had Jonny Hoad joining him at Nogaro for the latest French Fun Cup round with Team Viking Ursus Capital, standing in for the absent Colin Kingsnorth.
The pair qualified 12th out the 51 crews, “Jonny set the time, he did a blistering lap, but I wasn’t that far off either,” said Holme.
It was Holme that took the opening stint of the eight hour race, with the duo holding station over the first hour, before finishing the second in 11th place. “We had set some great times again, made early progress and were still well in contention at this stage,” he added.
Their pace continued to move them up the standings, breaking into the top 10 by the end of the third hour.
It was half distance that saw them peak though, “we had a super fast pitstop, I got out and Jonny got in, but we were up to sixth overall,” Holme added.
But the tide turned and they lost 12 minutes in one stop. “We had a hose leak, nothing more than a pin prick and you couldn’t even see if with the naked eye,” he explained.
They started the sixth hour down in 21st, but now 10 laps off the lead. “I just had to wait in the car, it seemed like an age. But we still had good pace and without that cooling system problem, I reckon we could have finished in the top four,” he concluded.
The final round of this years Championship is at Portimao this weekend, with Viking/Ursus currently 13th in the Championship, but setting a target of 10th in the final standings.
